100 watt solar panels are small and light, which makes them a great match for a single pole. One bolt-on top of pole mount holds up to six 100W panels on one ground pipe, with no welding and no custom parts.
How many 100W panels fit on one pole?
A top of pole mount holds up to six 100 watt panels. You don't have to fill it on day one. Start with two and add more later on the same pole.

Panel sizes vary by brand, so lay your panels out on the ground first to confirm spacing before you drill or clamp anything.
What you need
- One top of pole mount sized to your ground pipe: 3" (3.5" OD) or 4" (4.5" OD).
- One ground pipe, 3" or 4" galvanized schedule 40/80 or oilfield pipe.
- One 2" (2 3/8" OD) horizontal pipe for the mount to hold.
- Panel rails such as unistrut or aluminum rail to attach the panels to the horizontal pipe.
- Concrete to set the ground pipe, plus the panel maker's clamps.

3" or 4" pipe: which should you use?
Both mounts hold the same panels on the same 2" horizontal pipe. The only difference is the ground pipe. If you already have pipe, match the mount to it. If you're buying new, the 4" pipe gives you a heavier, stiffer pole.
How to set up a 100W pole mount
- Pick a spot with full sun for most of the day, facing south in the northern hemisphere.
- Set the ground pipe plumb in concrete and let it cure. Follow local codes for depth.
- Slide the mount over the top of the pipe and tighten the bolts.
- U-bolt the 2" horizontal pipe into the mount.
- Attach your rails, then clamp the 100W panels to the rails.
- Set the tilt for your latitude and season.
