What else you'll need
The mount comes with U-bolts and bolts to attach it to your pipes. Hardware to attach the panels is not included. Everything else is stocked at most home improvement stores (Home Depot, Lowe's, Ace):
- Ground pipe: one 2", 2.5", 3" or 4" schedule 40/80 galvanized pipe or oilfield pipe, to match your mount. Don't use conduit or thin metal tubing for the ground pipe.
- Horizontal pipe: 2" (2 3/8" OD) galvanized pipe. 2 in. rigid metal conduit, threaded with a coupling, also works here.
- Strut channel: 12 or 14 gauge strut (12 gauge recommended). The panels sit on the strut.
- Strut pipe clamps: 2 in. universal strut pipe clamps, two for each piece of strut.
- Panel fasteners: self-tapping screws or bolts and nuts to attach the panels to the strut.
- Concrete to set the ground pipe.
- Tools: level, tape measure, post-hole digger or auger, wrenches and a drill.

Running a small off-grid system, a cabin, a gate opener, a pump or a camera? A top of pole mount is one of the simplest ways to put 100 watt solar panels on a pole. One mount holds up to six 100W panels on a single ground pipe.
Why a pole mount for 100W panels
- Keeps panels up off the ground, away from shade, snow and animals
- Turn and tilt the array toward the sun instead of living with your roof angle
- Start with two panels and add more later on the same pole
Tip: mount your panels on rails or unistrut across the 2" horizontal pipe so you can space them evenly and add panels later.

Installation
How to install a top of pole solar mount

Get your pipe
One 2", 2.5", 3" or 4" ground pipe and one 2" horizontal pipe, schedule 40/80. Most hardware stores cut to length.

Set the ground pipe
Set it plumb in concrete and let it cure. Follow local codes for depth and height.

Bolt the mount on top
Slide the mount over the pipe top and tighten the bolts. U-bolt the horizontal pipe in place.

Attach panels & set tilt
Attach your panel rails and panels, then set the tilt angle for your latitude and season.

Top of pole mount questions
Information here is general guidance, not engineering advice. Follow local codes and your panel maker's instructions.
What's the difference between the 2"–3" and 4" mounts?
Only the ground pipe size. The 2"–3" mount fits 2" (2 3/8" OD), 2.5" (2 7/8" OD) or 3" (3.5" OD) pipe, and the 4" mount fits 4" (4.5" OD) pipe. Both hold the same panels on 2" (2 3/8" OD) horizontal pipe.
How many solar panels can I put on one pole?
Up to 3 large 300-400W panels or up to 6 100W panels.
Can I adjust the tilt angle?
Yes. The tilt is fully adjustable so you can set the best angle for your location and change it by season.
Is hardware included?
Yes, for the pipes. The mount comes with U-bolts and bolts to attach it to your ground pipe and horizontal pipe. Hardware to attach your panels (strut, clamps, screws) is not included.
Do I need more than one pole?
Not for up to 6 small or 3 large panels. For bigger systems, see our array top caps, which connect 2-20 poles.
How deep should I set the pole?
Many installers go at least 2 feet deep with at least 100 lb of concrete. Every site is different (soil, frost line, panel size), so check your local building codes or ask a local installer for your setup.
Can I add more panels later?

Does it work with any brand of solar panel?
Yes. The mount holds standard panel rails, so most framed panels from any brand will fit.
